Overview:
Rajasthan is a land of formidable forts and proud palaces; a land of chivalrous warrior clans; a land of hardy men with handlebar moustaches and of coy, demure women with brilliantly coloured costumes and exquisite jewellery, a land with a rich folklore of heroism and romance. While the Taj Mahal in Agra, the Red Fort in Delhi, and the City Palace and the Amber Fort in Jaipur are all impressive sights and feature on the wish list of most first time travellers to India, in visiting these sights, one remains in big bustling cities, caught up in the melee of people, jostling for space with tourists, touts and beggars, and it is easy to form an impression on India based on this alone. However, if one ventures out into the villages where the true heart of the country is, one can meet the rural population of India, and have an incredibly wonderful and at times humbling experience. The generosity of these people, who on paper may have next to nothing, is almost overwhelming. Seeing how rich their simple lives can be despite their poverty, and savouring the hospitality that they offer to any visitor to their village is truly an experience one will want to remember for long. It is also easy to rush through India ticking off sights as you go, which can leave you with an overwhelming sense of chaos. But if one slows down and gets to know an area and its people, one can have a far more rewarding journey. On this tour of Rajasthan that also takes in Delhi, the capital of modern India and Mumbai, its financial hub, you will experience the enormous contradictions and the diverse facets of its vibrant culture that go into making India what it is..

Detailed Itinerary :
DAY 01 – Arrival Delhi

On arrival you will be welcomed at the airport by an ITC representative and transferred to your hotel. Relax and unwind on your first day in Delhi. Overnight at the hotel. (Vehicle for transfer only)

Day 02 – Delhi

After breakfast we will go on a sightseeing tour of Delhi. As the capital city of India, its former rulers always prized Delhi for its strategic location. A visit to Old Delhi is always an experience. Walk through the ancient bustling, twisting alleyways of Chandni Chowk, the bazaar area and the Red Fort as well as the Jama Masjid (India's biggest mosque). For those who want to see more, there is the Raj Ghat where Gandhi was cremated and which today is a peaceful and popular park. The British built New Delhi, carefully planning the city and the main metropolitan area, when they moved their capital here from Calcutta in 1911. With many interesting museums and art galleries, and several monuments constructed by the mighty Mughal Emperors such as Humayun's Tomb and the Qutab Minar, there is plenty to explore in Delhi. Drive past the India Gate and the Rashtrapati Bhawan (The Presidential Palace). Visit also the prominent Sikh temple at Bangla Sahib. Delhi is a shopper's paradise. It is one big emporium for all of India's handicrafts, and home to some of the best contemporary designers that India can boast of. This energetic city now has good dining and nightlife options to complement its considerable historical and architectural interest. Overnight at the hotel. (Vehicle at Disposal)

Day 03 – Delhi – Agra (210 km/4 ½ hrs)

This morning we drive to Agra, and on arrival check-in at the hotel. Agra is home to the world's greatest monument of love and one of the most famous landmarks in India - the Taj Mahal. It's best to view this architectural marvel at sunrise or sunset, when the light reflects off the white marble to give it a magnificent pink hue. Built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal is a celebration of Love and Womanhood. Noted British poet and journalist Sir Edwin Arnold wrote thus about the Taj: 'Not a piece of architecture as other buildings are, but the proud passions of an emperor's love wrought in living stones." This magnificent mausoleum is a symmetrical masterpiece that took 22 years of concerted effort by as many as 20,000 workers to complete, and is one of the seven wonders of the world. The designs and decorations are stunning in their lavish detail and the use of semi-precious stones. Although the Taj is one of the most photographed edifices in the world and is instantly recognized by people, seeing it for real is an awe-inspiring experience. Visit the Taj Mahal by sunset. Overnight at the hotel. (Vehicle at Disposal)

Day 04 – Agra

Though Agra is known globally as the city of the Taj, this royal Mughal city has several other monuments that epitomize the high point of Mughal architecture. Agra was the capital of Mughal India in the 16th and 17th centuries. It was here that the founder of the dynasty, Babar, laid out the first formal Persian garden on the banks of the river Yamuna. Here, Akbar, his grandson raised the towering ramparts of the Red Fort. Within its walls, his successors built palaces, courts, mosques and gardens. The Agra Fort today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend the day watching the various sights of Agra. After lunch visit the Itmad-ud-Daulah tomb. Overnight at the hotel. (Vehicle at Disposal)

Day 05 - Agra – Jaipur (230 km/5 ½ hrs)

After breakfast, we leave for Jaipur, touching Fatehpur Sikri en-route. Located some 35 km from Agra, Fatehpur Sikri was built by Akbar as his capital, but was later abandoned for lack of water. It is today a World Heritage Site. On arrival at Jaipur, check-in at the hotel. Known as the Pink City due to the predominantly pink colour of its buildings, Jaipur is one of the most enticing places to see in India. Every aspect of this majestic city was meticulously planned. The width of the streets and the pavements, the height of the buildings and the division of blocks are all based on ancient geometric harmony and sound environmental considerations. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, Jaipur is steeped in colourful and romantic Rajput history. Its traditional bazaars selling brilliantly coloured textiles and an endless array of trinkets form an integral part of the city centre. Immerse yourself in the sensory whirl of streets packed with camel carts and cycle-rickshaws, which make Jaipur a dazzling and spirited city like no other.  After resting a while at the hotel, you will be taken on an excursion to the enchanting 'Village of Magicians.' Spend the evening at leisure. Overnight at the hotel. (Vehicle at Disposal)

Day 06 – Jaipur

After breakfast at the hotel, we will go on a day-long sightseeing tour of Jaipur and Amber. We'll explore the City Palace, the Hawa Mahal and the beautiful Amber Fort. At Amber Fort visitors can climb the ancient ramparts on elephant-back; a fantastic way to take in the awe-inspiring vistas of this magical location. Within the fort lies Jai "Mandir" (Temple) with its world renowned Sheesh Mahal. The interiors of this magnificent monument are covered with an array of mirrors. A single streak of light is enough to illuminate the entire hall. After lunch we'll visit the City Palace, the former royal residence in the heart of the old city, and a blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. The palace houses a Museum with a superb collection of Rajasthani costumes and armaments of the Mughals and the Rajputs, including swords of different shapes and sizes with ornamental handles, some of them inlaid with enamel and embellished with jewels and encased in magnificent scabbards. The palace also has an art gallery with an excellent collection of miniature paintings, carpets, royal paraphernalia and rare astronomical works. Adjacent to the City Palace is Jantar Mantar, the largest of Jai Singh's five remarkable observatories. We'll also visit the Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Wind. Built in 1799, this magnificent structure is one of the major landmarks of Jaipur. This five-storey building, which looks out over the main street of the old city, is a stunning example of Rajput artistry, with its pink semi octagonal and delicately honeycombed sandstone windows. It was originally built to enable ladies of the royal household, to watch the everyday life and the colourful processions in the street below without being seen. Enjoy a sumptuous Rajasthani Dinner and stay overnight stay at the hotel. (Vehicle at Disposal) * Elephant ride* subject to availability.

Day 07 – Jaipur – Bundi (208 km/4 hrs)

After breakfast we will drive to Bundi and on arrival check-in at the hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Bundi, where time appears to have stood still, is Rajasthan's best-kept secret, with a palace described by Kipling as appearing to be "the work of goblins rather than of men". Bundi is an unexplored and relatively undiscovered destination. The palaces and the fort have a fairy tale quality about them and create a picturesque location. Bundi has for long remained isolated and offers a warmth of hospitality rarely found elsewhere. This, together with the paucity of cars and motorbikes on its streets, makes this ancient town a pleasure to wander around in. Bundi is also famous for its 'Baoris', terraced wells with stone steps, which were once used to store rainwater for the long dry season. These are often beautifully decorated, the most impressive being the Raniji-ki-Baori. Surrounded by ornately carved pillars and scalloped arches, at 150ft deep it is one of the largest and finest of its kind. However, the most striking presence in the town is that of the magnificent and imposing Garh Palace, the former home of the Maharaja. Besides being an architectural marvel and the focal point of the town, the palace has on display several 300-year-old paintings and murals depicting gods, hunting scenes and battles, which are some of the best preserved in the country. Overnight at the hotel. (Vehicle at Disposal)

Day 08 – Bundi – Bijaipur (180 km/4 ½ hrs)

After breakfast we will leave for Bijaipur and on arrival check-in at the hotel. The castle of Bijaipur was built in early 16th century AD by Rao Vijay Singh, descendent of the great Rajput warrior Shakti Singh. Bijaipur was a strategic location in the former kingdom of Mewar, as it defended the frontiers against the invading Mughal and Maratha armies. The present Rao Sahib Narendra Singh has renovated and converted the castle into one of the first heritage hotels in the region for tourists to come and experience the warm Rajput hospitality of Mewar. An enchanting edifice standing high on a plateau amidst the great Vindhyachal ranges, the castle offers breathtaking views of the valley, the lake and village encircling it. Overnight at the hotel. (Vehicle at Disposal)

Day 09 – Bijaipur

Spend the day at leisure. You have the option to go horse-riding. Adventure tours and safaris organised by the royal family offer a rare glimpse into the rich and colourful wild life of India. The great landscapes will fascinate you as your jeep makes its way through the countryside. Bijaipur is a horse lover's paradise; the stables have quality Marwari horses and one can explore the countryside on the horse back. Overnight at the hotel. (Vehicle at Disposal)

Day 10 – Bijaipur
Spend the day at leisure. You have the option to go horse-riding or explore the local villages and countryside by jeep or bicycle Overnight at the hotel. (Vehicle at Disposal)

Day 11 – Bijaipur – Udaipur (130 km/ 2 ½ hrs)

After breakfast we will drive to Udaipur and on arrival check-in at the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Set amongst rolling hills speckled with shimmering lakes, Udaipur is considered by many as the most beautiful and the most romantic city in Rajasthan. Founded in 1567 by Maharana Udai Singh, the city is surprisingly quiet and traffic-free. It has the atmosphere of a small town, with winding alleyways and tree-lined streets leading to the impressive City Palace, which overlooks the legendary "floating" Lake Palace. Overnight at the hotel. (Vehicle at Disposal)

Day 12 – Udaipur

We will spend the day on a sightseeing tour of Udaipur, starting with the City Palace.  The entrance to the City Palace complex is through the 'Hathi Pol' (elephant gate) along the main street of the old city, past the Jagdish Temple. The paintings, mosaics, intricately carved 'Chhatries' and the architecturally brilliant faηade all contribute to making a visit to the City Palace a truly memorable experience. We will also visit the lovely Sahelion-ki-Bari, the garden of the maids of honour that was constructed for forty-eight young ladies in waiting who were sent to the royal house as a part of a lavish dowry. Later we'll go on a motor launch cruise on the placid waters of Lake Pichola (subject to water levels). From the beautifully decorated boat you will be able to view the city of Udaipur as it rises majestically above the lake. Also visit the Jag Mandir Palace - another lovely island palace in the middle of the lake. And if the weather gods permit, we will watch a spectacular sunset over the lake, which will be a fitting finale for the day. Overnight at the hotel. (Vehicle at Disposal)

Day 13 – Udaipur – Mumbai (9W 3401/0840-1010)

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport to take a flight to Mumbai. On arrival you will be welcomed at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The western state of Maharashtra has its capital in Bombay, India's greatest port, financial hub and the trend-setting converging point of the East-West nexus. Perched on an island in the Arabian Sea and separated from the rest of India by a winding creek, Bombay, now known as Mumbai, is a world unto itself, with a unique intensity that hits you the moment you land. Its culture is contemporary and vibrant and reflects both the affluence and the poverty of the more than 15 million people that inhabit the island. Restaurants, bars, museums and shops are juxtaposed with towering skyscrapers, bustling streets, bright neon lights, and the glamorous film industry of Bollywood. After lunch we will visit the Gateway of India, the principal landmark of Mumbai. Another major landmark of this vibrant city is the Victoria Terminus, which was designed in Italian Gothic style by F. W. Stevens. We will also stop at Mani Bhawan, a small museum dedicated to the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi and the bustling Crawford Market, before returning to the hotel.  Overnight at the hotel.
